Late Sunday... nothing much to say... but what the hey!

I am finding I really have to more patient with 40k. I know how to play it, but I've been doing Fantasy so much lately I keep getting rules mixed up. I also worry too much when I start losing a couple squads quick. Case in point: today.

I played a 2000pt game. My Imperial Guard vs my good friend's Biel Tan Eldar. I was intimidated from the get go. I've faced it a few times now. He beat my guard before (though a different list), beat my marines, drew my sisters recently on Vassal. He regularly wins with his list. He has yet to lose maybe? I can't remember. Regardless I will post both our lists after this schpiel.

Things looked grim right off the bat. We had Dawn of War deployment and Secure and Control (the one with an objective in each end). I deployed my HQ Command Squad and both platoons up fairly far, putting a platoon on each side of the board hiding them in cover, putting big guns in good firing lanes. He deployed his Avatar and 2 squads of Dire Avengers up as far as he could. Second round? I don't think anything of mine even came on! My reserve rolling was ridiculously bad and cost me alot of valuable time. I wanted to use one platoon, the one way away from the objective that he was ignoring, to go and get it but had to keep them in place much longer then I woulda liked.

In the end it was a draw. I had actually made a good comeback and destroyed a large portion of his force. He had one half squad or so of Avengers on his objective and only one more of 5 on their way over. I had killed the other 2 squads plus his avatar and a bunch of other stuff.

Hellhounds were absolutely killer in this game. Two of them counted nearly all my kills. The Avatar went down to sustained (as in all game) heavy weapons fire. He was right on my lines, I had to kill him. His Scorpions whooped shit too, killing a tank, my command HQ and some more guard. Ogryns finished them AND Banshees off. NEVER EVER EVER underestimate Ogryns. Yes, they are over priced and I take them because I love them so much (total baby unit, we all have one) but they are VERY effective at what they do.

Overall a really really fun game. Too bad we can't play together more often. It certainly kick started my urge to get my guard finished up, that's for sure.

The lists!

Biel Tan: Avatar, Farseer o' Doom/Fortune, 4 squads of Dire Avengers (2 w/ defend, 2 w/ bladestorm), x6 Scorpions, x10 Banshees, x10 Warp Spiders, x10 (or something) Swooping Hawks, 6 or so Fire Dragons, 3 Dark Reapers, 3 Shining Spears. Very fluff Biel Tan, all with exarchs.

Imperial Guard: Command HQ with x2 plasma and a commissar, x3 mortar, x3 missile launchers, Platoon HQ w/ x2 flamer, 2 squads with grenade launcher/autocannon, 2 with lascannon/grenade, another platoon HQ like the last, 3 squads of guard all with grenade launchers (2 with autocannons, 1 with lascannon), 8 flank marching vets with x2 meltas, 6 ogryns in a chimera, 2 hellhounds, 2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks, 1 Leman Russ Demolisher.

As for the "Tale of..." it seems to have very much stalled. I am going to wait and see what happens but I have a feeling it will be on hold. I am gonna suggest an escalation league, but only for one system (40k works best. Fantasy doesn't work as well at really low points) I am disappointed, but hey, it happens.

Oh... and me and my girlfriend are starting Ogres together for Fantasy! Crazy.

  1. Shame I couldn't have played against you guys! I would have loved the challenge of playing against another Eldar player. Maybe next time?
